Junetta Jamerson, KLA Project Coordinator, is a celebrated vocalist, producer and community organizer. She brings years of leadership experience to the KLA. Junetta has had the privilege of working with and learning from top international artists such as Ron Kenoly, Mavis Staples and Grammy winning producer Frank Wilson. She is the recipient of the "Big Miller Award" for musical excellence and has been designated an "Edmonton Icon" by CityTV. Junetta embraces a standard of personal excellence and encourages others to do so in an engaging, inspiring way.

 


 

 

Nicole Andrews is a young vibrant professional born in Quebec, raised in Alberta.  She's been teaching elementary school for over 10 years.  Nicole is an experienced singer and musician and has led many children & youth choirs and musicals.  Nicole is the principal music leader at a local church.  A Women of Distinction award nominee, Nicole finds joy and fulfillment in volunteering in her community.  Nicole's additional creative outlet is through interior design and staging for local showhomes and realtors.

 


 

 

Malcolm Azania is a novelist, journalist, school teacher, radio and television broadcaster and community activist.  He holds a BA and a BEd with Distinction.  Since 1986 he's worked with numerous community and social justice organisations, including the Council of Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage, the Edmonton Black Organisation for Nubian Youth, and HumanServe International for which he is a board member.  His debut novel was shortlisted for three awards and placed on four top-ten lists for 2004. A n acclaimed speaker, he has addressed crowds in the tens of thousands.


 


 

 

Siyani Nsaliwa brings over 15 years of experience working with youth. He is the former of president of the CCACH (Council of Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage) youth group, and president of the BSA (Black Students' Association) at the U of A.  A technical trainer by profession, Siyani has tutored and mentored countless pre-secondary youth over the years and has been a key contributor to their academic success.  Siyani brings his love of learning and organizational skills to the annual "Afro Quiz" competition, which aims at educating all youth about black history.

 


 

 

Asha Tomlinson has been an on-air personality at CityTV Edmonton since 2005.  She has a BA degree (Honours) from the University of Windsor with a major in Communications. She is also a professional dancer and choreographer who has studied with some of the industry's best.  Asha has worked with kids for several years teaching hip hop to children aged 8 to 18 . She has also hosted workshops for inner-city youth.  During Black History Month in 2006, she produced and presented the first week-long local television series on Alberta's Black Pioneers, which won the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Canada (RTNDA) Award.  Asha is the Honorary Walk Chair for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, Edmonton Chapter. She is proud to be part of the KLA team and seeks to inspire success in today's youth.

 


 

 

Marlon Wilson has helped establish an urban music scene in Edmonton through creating opportunity for burgeoning artists and providing them with artistic development.  Wilson, who is a NAIT Marketing Graduate, has been a panelist at various Music Industry Conferences and has sat on multiple FACTOR Loan and Grant juries.  Through his record label Music For Mavericks, Wilson has helped raised awareness of social issues like poverty with evens like Hip-Hop For Hunger which has raised over 6,000 lbs of food for Edmonton's Food Bank in seven years.  With honours such as being listed as Edmontonian Magazine's "Sizzling 20 Under 30" and CTV's "U30", Wilson's entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community has not gone unnoticed as he strives to be a role model for youth everywhere.
