Creating the next generation of diverse leaders
"Keshotu" is Swahili for "Our Future". The Keshotu Leadership Academy (KLA) is a performing arts and leadership development program for African Canadian youth who are interested in becoming future leaders.
The KLA aims to provide a space for already high-achieving African Canadian youth to develop their leadership skills while fine-tuning their artistic talents. As a part of the KLA team, students bring their talents to the table and create performances and productions from start to finish with the help of your peers and our dedicated facilitators. Throughout the school year students will have the opportunity to explore their identity and potential while also delving into different art forms like dance, spoken-word, acting, and musical performance.
If you are interested in further engaging the African Canadian youth at your school consider recommending that they apply to the KLA. (All KLA programming takes place outside of school time.)
See the program brochure here.
Who should apply?
- Strong students with a desire to become leaders
- Students ages 13-18 of African Heritage (African, Caribbean, South American, African-American, etc.)
- Students with two positive teacher references

"Being a part of the Keshotu Leadership Academy was a once in a lifetime experience. I was exposed to aspects of the professional world, given opportunities and put in situations I would have never been a part of if it wasn't for the KLA..." Nasra - 16
