Cultivating leadership and professional skills in Aboriginal youth through the arts
Oti Nîkân Aboriginal Leadership Academy (ALA)-- "Oti nîkân" is Cree for “our future" and the focus of the ALA. The ALA combines traditional Aboriginal teachings with contemporary art and technology to help Aboriginal youth identify their interests and talents while simultaneously developing their leadership skills.
As a part of the ALA, youth will:
work with top Aboriginal professionals and artists
work with and cultivate relationships with other Aboriginal youth
build skills in communications and expression via artistic training
build skills to deal with racism in positive ways
work in a highly visible, media oriented context
complete an in-depth career investigation
Who Can Apply:
Aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, Metis) youth between 14-25 years old
Solid students with prior leadership experience
Youth with two references
